Ex-magpie Richardson pens new deal with Hornets

-

FORMER Newcastle United midfielder Michael Richardson has confirmed that he will stay with Northern League Division One club Hebburn Town next season.

The 28-year-old made the short trip across South Tyneside when he joined the Hornets from Northern Premier League neighbours South Shields ahead of the 2018/19 season.

He helped the club to a second placed finish in their first season back amongst the Northern League elite and went on to score 19 goals last season as they looked well set to secure on of the three promotion places that were up for grabs.

Any thoughts of spending next season in the Northern Premier League’s second tier were ended by the coronavirus epidemic, but the club’s dreams of walking out at Wembley in the FA Vase Final remain alive after the FA confirmed that they will try to complete their national competitions.

After putting pen to paper to stay with Hebburn, Richardson admitted that he can’t wait to get back on the pitch once the all-clear is given.

He told the club website: “Now the off-field stuff has been sorted, all I am looking forward to now is getting back on the pitch and helping to bring success to this fantastic club.

“This club is special and, it’s not until you are here and involved in it, that you see how unique and amazing it is.

“From the owners to all the volunteers who put in countless hours behind the scenes through the week and on match days.

“I’m sure all of the other players now look forward to a return whenever it’s safe to do so.”

It has been a productive week for the Hornets as a number of key players committed to staying with the club.

Captain Louis Storey, top goalscorer Graeme Armstrong and talented young striker Olly Martin are amongst nine players that have confirmed that they will remain at the Energy Check Sports Ground next season.
