DORTMUND DOMINATE AS FOOTBALL RETURNS TAKEOVER STILL ON TRACK HOW BORO WERE SAVED AFTER GATES WERE LOCKED

- Lee Ryder

NEWCASTLE United’s wouldbe owners have not been notified of any hold-ups caused by political protests this week.

MP Karl Mccartney urged the government to “block” Amanda Staveley’s Middle East consortium this week due to concerns over piracy via broadcaster beoutq.

But it is understood that has not resulted in any red flags or even a hold up to the owners’ and directors’ test which is currently in the hands of the Premier League.

As it stood at the close of play on Friday, the would-be owners, which consist of Staveley, the Reuben brothers and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, were not concerned about a week of negative calls from MP Mccartney and Clacton MP Giles Watling, who called for an evidence session.

The session had not been sanctioned and would not be classed as a priority in the UK due to the virus pandemic.

Therefore, those who have laid out a detailed proposal to take over from Mike Ashley after 13 years on Tyneside are still waiting for the green light from Premier League chiefs.

It is believed there is an understanding from the would-be buyers that the tests are long-winded and the current climate in the UK has made it even slower.

Definitive time-frames aren’t really in place, but the bidding group have done everything asked of them by the Premier League so far.

Top-flight bosses haven’t had the productive week they anticipated with Project Restart with players wanting reassurances on safety measures before signing any forms with their clubs. Watford’s Troy Deeney led concerns this week when he said: “They’re talking about not playing in front of fans until 2021.

“So if it’s not safe enough for fans to be inside a stadium, why should it be safe for players to be in there?”

Nevertheless, United’s managing director Lee Charnley has opened up talks with Toon players on getting the club to sign up to
