Lockdown explored in film

-

A TEENAGE filmmaker has made a documentary that explores life during the coronavirus crisis.

Emma Gray, 17, has spoken to friends and family for the documentary “Coronavirus: Life in Lockdown”, who have shared their experiences and the challenges they have faced.

Due to social distancing restrictions, the film features interviews on video call as well as people in her household.

From working at home to musical livestreams and homemade gyms, Emma of Chester-le-street, County Durham, says the film captures the atmosphere and human spirit during this unprecedented time.

Emma, who hopes to study art and design at college in September, said: “I think the documentary is a reflection of this moment in time,.

“I hope people will be able to watch it and relate to what has happened.”

Interviewees include musician

Sam Slatcher and her grandparents, who were on holiday in Spain at the start of the outbreak.

She said: “A lot of people said the same thing in different ways. My grandparents got stranded on holiday abroad. I interviewed a friend who had their exams cancelled and a singer-songwriter doing concerts. You were seeing that human spirit coming through.

“I think that art and creativity is a great way to express how you’re feeling and to help you cope with what’s going on, so the film allowed me to do that as well as connecting with people.”

The film ends with an inspiring reading of a letter from a teacher in China, highlighting there is hope in the situation.

Emma added: “I hope people come out of it feeling hopeful, that they think ‘Yes, we will all get through this’. I am aiming for quite a positive message.”

The documentary is on Emma’s Youtube channel EJG Arts.
