Care home residents recover from virus

-

A CARE home has cause for celebration as four residents have recovered after testing positive for coronavirus.

The elderly residents at The Chesters Care Home, in Gateshead, displayed mild symptoms of Covid-19.

And 97-year-old Ivy Lough explained that she was only aware that she had the virus when she was tested in hospital following a fall.

Ivy said: “I had been feeling slightly ‘off colour,’ but I certainly didn’t display any major symptoms that would cause me any concern.

“However, I did experience a loss of smell and taste which I wasn’t aware was a symptom at the time as it has only recently been recognised.”

Following a four-day stay in hospital, Ivy has now returned to the care home which she moved to in March.

In celebration and to lift spirits of the 26 residents in the care home, residents were treated to an afternoon of entertainment on Friday.

Local singer Alfie Dobson serenaded the residents, who observed the entertainment from the balcony and their windows.

And there were smiles all round as they sang along to favourite songs from the ’40s and ’50s.

Care home manager Trish Soulsby, who organised the event, said: “We thought it would be nice to help raise spirits by getting a singer along and letting residents see their loved ones at a safe distance.”

Residents, who have been isolated in their rooms throughout the pandemic, were overjoyed to see their loved ones who had travelled to the home for the occasion.”
