Stockton land former Moors star Henry for next season

-

STOCKTON Town have landed a major coup by securing the signing of former Spennymoor Town midfielder Shane Henry.

The Anchors have quickly moved on from the disappointment of seeing their expected Northern League title win snatched away from them by the Football Association’s decision to void the 2019/20 season.

Manager Michael Dunwell has tied down the services of a number of key players including club captain Adam Nicholson, highlyrated goalkeeper Callum Roberts and exciting winger Kevin Hayes.

But the Anchors boss has now made his first move to add to his squad with the addition of Henry just hours after his departure from National League North club Spennymoor Town was confirmed.

The Stockton-born midfielder became a key figure for Jason Ainsley’s side after moving to Brewery Field from Whitby Town and helped the club establish themselves in non-league’s second tier.

He will now join his hometown club and is hopeful that he can help Stockton get out of the Northern League and progress into the “higher levels” of the non-league pyramid.

He told the club website: “To everyone involved at Stockton Town, can I just say how delighted I am to be signing for my hometown club.

“The club is going places quickly and I want to be a big part of all of future success.

“Thank you to the chairman and management team for making the move possible.

“I can’t wait to get started. “I will look forward to joining what is already an amazing group of players that will continue to challenge for trophies next season.

“But the main goal is to get Stockton out of the NL and competing in the higher levels of non league football.”

There was a further boost for the Anchors this week as local company MAP Group UK were confirmed as the new ground name sponsors at Bishopton Road West.

Anchors Chairman Martin Hillerby said, “I’m thrilled that we have found a new sponsor for the Ground and MAP Group UK have very kindly stepped forward.

“We look forward to the future with confidence and we are sure of future success when we receive this level support from local Stockton based companies who wish to support community successes like Stockton Town.”
