And large and The Wall
I’ve put Kevin in here, I like him playing on the right wing and cutting inside onto his left foot.
When I first came he was playing on the left side, but then I started playing there
and
Reidy moved him to the right.
He was a left-footer but he could cross with his right-foot too. He was versatile, and as well as playing on the wings he also played some games through the middle and when Mick Mccarthy was in charge he had a few games at left-back as well.
Kevin got a lot of criticism from some of the Sunderland fans and he had his issues with the supporters, but when he was on song he was a really good player.
He had a good career at club level and with the Republic of Ireland, and as a character he was a good professional and a very nice guy.
something different. was 33 or 34 and he was great in that 2000-01 season, but the next year his back gave him problems and he didn’t start as many games, and in the third season he retired.
And the other striker I was thinking about was Patrick Mboma.
He was a Cameroon international and he came to Sunderland on loan from Parma in 2002. He wasn’t with us for long and maybe we didn’t see the best of him but his pace ... wow!
I thought he was a fantastic player and his pace was absolutely ridiculous.
If you asked me who I would play in today’s style of football, I would Mboma and Phillips because you need pace up front.
But I’ve got to go for Quinny here. I don’t think you can beat Quinn and Phillips, they were a special partnership and they just clicked and got the best out of each other.
When Quinny wasn’t in the side we missed him and we knew it, and when that happens you know that guy must be the man who makes the difference.
