KEVIN PHILLIPS
I’ve got Kevin in here, of course. What can you say about Kevin? He’s a great goalscorer and the season before I joined he had scored 30 goals in the Premier League and won the European Golden Shoe.
He was unlucky not to play more games for the national team, I think he should have played more but that happens a lot if you play for a team like Sunderland and you are competing against strikers playing for Manchester United and Arsenal and Chelsea.
It doesn’t matter what international managers say, players at the high-profile clubs get priority – it happens everywhere. The same thing happened to Mickey Gray, he played a few games for England but he probably deserved more.
If Kevin was playing for a Man United, Arsenal or Chelsea, he would have had many, many England caps.
