Boro linked with former Reds winger Jordan Ibe

MIDDLESBROUGH have been linked with former Liverpool midfielder Jordon Ibe.

The 24-year-old is set to be released at the end of the season by Bournemouth and is on the lookout for a new challenge.

The ex-england Under-21 international was wanted by Boro in the summer 2019 transfer window but was reportedly not keen to travel to the North East.

Ibe joined Bournemouth from Liverpool in a club-record £15m move in July 2016 but failed to impress in the Premier League for the Cherries.

Since the transfer he’s made just 44 league starts for the club before the season was suspended in March, scoring three goals.

Now the Sun are reporting that Boro are going to make another attempt to sign the player who will soon become a free agent.

One thing’s for certain, any deal would require Ibe to accept vastly reduced terms given Middlesbrough’s spending limits.

Boro are hopeful of signing Patrick Roberts on a season-long loan ahead of the 2020/21. That deal would certainly be dependent on Jonathan Woodgate’s team staying in the Championship.

Meanwhile, Dutch club VVV Venlo have decided not to offer Lee Cattermole a new contract and the former Boro midfielder is now looking for a new club.

The Eredivisie ended prematurely last month as a result of the coronavirus crisis and the 32-year-old spoke about his options at that time in an interview with Talksport.

He said: “You’ve got to stay as positive as you can, stay fit and be ready to go again. Hopefully an opportunity comes along that I want to go and do, whether that’s here or whether that’s there.”
