Horden fire SIXTEEN to go top of the table

-

HORDEN CW bounced back from their midweek defeat at Boldon CA in stunning style as they hit double figures at Annfield Plain.

David Doughty lead the way in a 16-0 win for his side as he found the net on five occasions during a dominant display at Derwent Park.

Joe Bell plundered his way to a hat-trick, Callum Hodge and Peter Crawford grabbed braces and there was a goal apiece for Marc Moon, John Bowes, Myles Hubbard and Andrew Lonsdale as Horden romped to the top of the table.

Chester-le-street United made it three wins in four games as they came through a tough test at Coxhoe Athletic.

George Pinder, Jackson Ward and Michael Spellman all found the net as the Wearside League new-boys secured a 3-0 at Beechfield Park.

FC Hartlepool won an eventful game 5-4 against a previously unbeaten Wolviston.

Surprisingly, there was only one goal in the first half as Luke Naylor put Hartlepool ahead on 22 minutes.

They doubled their lead thanks to a cross-shot from Connor Campbell – but the visitors rallied to get themselves in front by the 72-minute mark thanks to a goal from Andy Mcgirr and a brace from Mikey Mcgee.

A topsy-turvy game swung back in the favour of the hosts as Matty Gardner and Dale Campion put them into a 4-3 lead as the last five minutes approached.

A Famara Jatta penalty then looked to have secured a point for Wolviston – but Connor Campbell kept his cool to slot home his second goal of the game and claim the points for his side in injurytime.

Durham United were beaten for the first time this season as they were hit for six at Richmond Town.

Eddie Lewington, George Battersby, Michael Gunnell and Ben Darville were all amongst the scorers as Neil Tarrant’s side claimed a comfortable win.

Norton and Stockton Ancients claimed their second win as a Wearside League club as Nathan Mohun, Gus Glass and Anthony Chisman all scored in their 3-0 triumph at West Auckland Tunns.

EBAC Northern League clubs have been urged to ensure Government guidelines for dealing with Covid-19 are followed by everyone involved in the league.

The move comes after a number of games in the opening fortnight of the season were postponed due to issues surrounding the pandemic.

Friday also brought news the Durham FA have postponed fixtures featuring clubs in the Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside area for leagues below the Northern League’s second tier.

Clubs across the league’s two division have now been asked to ensure they follow the strict guidelines to ensure that their fixtures don’t follow suit.

In a message released to clubs on Friday evening, league secretary Kevin

Hewitt said: “As many of you will be aware, especially the Durham clubs, who have received the statement from Durham County FA earlier today, that following a significant increase in the number of reported coronavirus cases, that Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside have been included on the Government Watch list.

“Meetings were held last night and this morning with Sunderland City Council, the Sunderland Director of Public Health together with some of the leagues in the area and other providers, to do what they can to help prevent the spread of coronavirus in the region.

“Following those meetings Durham County FA decided that all games scheduled to be played in Sunderland,

Gateshead and South Tyneside below Step 6 of the National League System would be cancelled with immediate effect until Monday, September 21,

2020 when the position would be reviewed.

“While this decision doesn’t currently affect any teams in either the Ebac Northern League First or Second Division, which are at Steps 5 and 6 respectively of the NLS, it does highlight the importance of maintaining the standards set out in your Covid-19 risk assessments and adhering strictly to all Government advice, guidance and instructions regarding social distancing, sanitisation etc.

“You should be aware that failure to do so could result in fixtures being suspended for a period of time or ultimately the season being curtailed as it was last season.

“The work clubs have done so far has been excellent and you should be highly commended for your efforts, but I cannot emphasise enough the seriousness of a repeat of last season’s scenario as it will affect the future of your club going forward and in some cases the result may well be terminal.

“Consequently, please emphasise to management, players, club officials and spectators alike the importance of following Government advice both at and away from the club, as we need to ensure everyone involved remains safe and ultimately protects lives of themselves and others.”
