A MINDLESS vandal smashed a window after he wasn’t allowed on a bus – because he had spent his fare on a KFC.

Sean Sillet, who was trying to get home from Newcastle to Hadston, in Northumberland, saw red when the bus driver refused to let him travel.

The 27-year-old repeatedly kicked at a glass panel at the bus station until it eventually smashed and the police were called, a court heard.

Sillet was arrested and claimed in interview that he had lost his temper after being told he wasn’t being allowed on board the X18 service because he didn’t have enough money to pay the fare, despite carrying a KFC bucket at the time.

The vandal, of Bondicar Road, in Hadston, near Morpeth, Northumberland, had been due to appear before magistrates in North Tyneside last week but failed to show and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

And now he has avoided an immediate stint behind bars after he appeared at the same court in custody to plead guilty to one count each of criminal damage and failing to surrender to court and to admit breaching a community order, given for a previous offence.

Prosecutor, Paul Anderson, said Sillet tried to board the bus at a station in Newcastle on October 13: “He says to the driver “let us on, I have got no money”.

“He’s agitated and aggressive and he has a KFC bucket in his arm. The defendant has basically lost his temper when he’s not allowed on the bus.”

The court heard that Sillet (pictured above) claimed to be just 50p short of the fare and couldn’t understand why he wasn’t being let on.

Alanna Wesencraft, defending, said Sillet suffered with depression and anxiety but was now living back with his father, which provided him with more stability.

Sillet was given a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to pay £350 compensation to Newcastle City Council, who owned the damaged window.
