Organisers up the ante for 24-hour bike battle

-

MOTORCYCLE endurance action will return to the North East next season with arguably the longest Tarmac bike battle on the calendar – the 24-hour Freetech UK scrap.

The series, for bikes up to 125cc, drew in bumper entry lists this season when it hosted two rounds at Teesside Autodrome with riders desperate to hit the track after government restrictions forced event cancellations across the bike racing world.

But for 2021, organisers are hoping to up the ante with three rounds at Teesside from May to August, including their biggest challenge yet – July’s 24-hour battle.

And with the grids continuing to grow, series boss and former National Superstock 1000 champ Hudson Kennaugh is eyeing even more expansion in the future.

“The guys at Teesside have been big supporters of Freetech since day one, so it was only natural that we went big with our first 24-hour race there,” he said.

“Personally, I love the track and I think it suits these little bikes perfectly. We’ve had huge interest in next year already so it looks like it’s going to be a busy 2021.”
