Tough start no excuse for sloppiness – Ainsley

- Joe Ramage

SPENNYMOOR manager Jason Ainsley insists the stop-start nature to their season is no excuse following a slow start to yesterday’s game with Bradford Park Avenue which saw the away side take a seventh minute lead.

Lewis Knight scored twice for 10-man Avenue as Moors were forced to come from behind on more than one occasion through Ryan Hall and Glen Taylor to earn a share of the spoils.

It is Spennymoor’s second 2-2 draw in succession at the Brewery Field and Ainsley was quick to point out his side must do better.

“I’m disappointed,” he said. “I said before the game we can’t afford to let them get a foothold because they’re a good away side and they’ve got good players on the counter attack.

“You’ve got to score first against them and we didn’t today.

“You can’t say it’s because we’ve had two weeks off – I don’t believe in that, I think we were just sloppy.

“It felt bizarre before the game. There were different protocols – it just felt strange but that’s no excuse. We’ve been here for four games and everyone knows what they’re doing.”

Despite going behind twice in the game, Moors showed great character to bounce back and maintain their unbeaten record at the Brewery Field but Ainsley admits it was two points dropped rather than one point gained.

“We’re and win said.

“We started poorly and the goal was justified and then you’re always expected to come here the football match,” he chasing the game a little bit and leaving yourself wide open.

“We had a lot of possession and created some good chances but you can’t concede two goals at home and expect to win a game of football.

“When you equalise and you’re on the front foot you look at how long’s left and you really fancy yourselves to go on and win the game, but then you shoot yourself right in the foot again.

“It’s two points dropped. We’ve got a big week at home and we haven’t got off to the best of starts.”
