PAMPERED pooches already have their own themed cafe in Newcastle – where they enjoyed socialising with new furry friends – and now they are being invited to take it up a level and strut their stuff at a disco.

Newcastle’s first ever Dachshund Disco will be taking place this spring with an open invite to sausage dogs to join the party.

The new breed-theme event is being brought to the city by the team behind Dachshund Cafe and Cockapoo Cafe which have already proved a hit with Geordie pet lovers.

It will be taking place at Revolucion de Cuba – the chosen scene of the previous get-togethers – which will be decked out with a light-up Doggy Dancefloor, disco balls and a mobile ‘pupuccino bar.’

There will be glowsticks at the ready for the disco-ing dachshunds and a Doggy Bakery will be serving up “pupcakes, dognuts, barkscotti and more”, say organisers.

The bar, in Newcastle’s Cloth Market, hosted a Cockapoo Cafe event last summer, and it’s on the back of such success that its organiser – dog event company Pug Cafe – is bring its disco idea north on April 24.

“It’s going to be epic,” said a spokesman, promising “lots of sausage fun and cuddles” and 80 minutes of ‘off lead’ experience.

There will be Chill Zones too, for nervous or older dachshunds or presumably those exhausted from their dancefloor antics.

And a free ‘after-pawty’ on the bar’s rooftop terrace will round off the day.

Other highlights are set to be a mini market, which will be hosted by The Crafty Dog Co and will sell accessories, and the venue’s own food and drink menu which will be on offer for humans.

Organiser Anushka Fernando called the disco “the ultimate feelgood event for all dachshunds, dachshund owners and dog lovers alike”, adding that all sausage dog fans are welcome whether they have a pet or not.

She said: “We’ve taken our original Dachshund Cafe concept and given it a super-cute disco twist.

“Our last Cockapoo Cafe event was a total success and we loved meeting all the Cockapoos of Newcastle and beyond.”
