A TEENAGE dad attacked a nurse and two police officers after a 10-hour binge on vodka and at least 10 pints.

Joshua Mckenzie struck out at the workers and hurled vile abuse at the officers, calling one a ‘little p**i b ****** .

But he claimed to have little memory of any of it when he woke up in a cell the next morning.

Teesside Magistrates’ Court heard the incident started at about 12.30am on August 8 last year.

Mckenzie, who had been drinking since 2pm, first approached an officer who was trying to help a man in the Linthorpe Road area of Middlesbrough.

Lynn Dalton, prosecuting, said: “He became obstructive and was asked to move on.

“He became verbally abusive towards the officer and members of the public.”

The officer chased and caught Mckenzie before arresting him for being drunk and disorderly.

He was taken to a police vehicle where he struck out at the officer and kicked his shin, causing a graze.

In police custody, a nurse came to examine him and she was kicked in the leg and knocked off balance.

“Because of the condition he was in he needed to be assessed by a doctor and was taken to hospital,” said Ms Dalton.

“While in James Cook Hospital, at around 2.50am, an officer was asked to attend the ambulance bay where there was an extremely irate and intoxicated male who wanted to use the facilities.”

The court heard Mckenzie was taken to the toilet but when the officer refused to remove his front-facing handcuffs, he screamed, “All I want is a f***ing p***, you baldy little b ****** .”

The officer gave him a verbal warning, the court heard, and Mckenzie attempted to headbutt him, calling him “a little p*** b ****** ”.

The court heard there were no people of any ethic minority groups in the vicinity, including the officer, so he was not charged with a racially-aggravated offence. When later asked about the injury he caused to the officer’s shin, the court heard he said: “It was a baby graze. The officer is a big baby.”

But he apologised for the assault on the custody suite nurse and said he could hardly remember any of the incidents, the court heard.

Officers also asked him about the racial slur aimed at the officer. Ms Dalton said: “He was asked if he was racist and he replied, ‘No not usually.’

“The officer thought he was just using the worst possible language he could think of at the time.”

The probation service who said Mckenzie had told them he was separated from his partner and had been drinking heavily after not being able to see his son for six months.

He has no previous convictions, has stopped drinking and is now seeing his son again, the court heard.

Mckenzie pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly as well as assaulting three emergency service workers.

The 19-year-old, of Trecastell in Ingleby Barwick, was given a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation to the injured officer.
