Students go third after beating battling Brandon

NEWCASTLE University moved into third place in the Division Two table as they battled to a home win against Brandon United.

The visitors looked set to collect a shock win at Kimberley Park when Reece Brown fired them in front on the half-hour mark.

That lead remained in place until Ryan Redford got the Uni back on level terms and they took the honours in dramatic fashion when Noah Neill scored in injury-time.

Sunderland West End remain a point and place ahead of them after Steven Stewart’s men earned a 3-3 draw at Bedlington Terriers.

Hener Bernard dos Santos, Sam Dinsley and Trae Rowlandson netted for Terriers but the spoils were shared thanks to a Lewis Charlton penalty, Tom Hunter and an Alex Herring goal.

Carlisle City were the big winners on Saturday as two goals from Jordan Holt and a goal apiece from Sam Atkinson, Josh Simpson and Jordan Palmer helped them to a 5-0 home win against Esh Winning.

Two goals from Carl Williams proved the inspiratio­n for Redcar Town’s 3-1 win at Chester-le-street Town. The Teesside outfit were two goals to the good at half-time as Williams got his first goal of the day and Jack Chapman netted with four minutes to go until the interval.

Mason Stephenson got their hosts back on level terms with 20 minutes remaining but Williams settled the contest when he doubled his tally in injury-time.

Paul King, Konner Lamb and Mark Waite all scored for Ryton and Crawcrook Albion as they secured a 3-2 win at Durham City to progress into the second round of the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup.

Nick Ballard and Connor Randall scored for the Citizens.
