Big Mac brace win for Heed as

GLOUCESTER CITY 2 GATESHEAD 4

- Jeff Bowron

GATESHEAD delivered a Big Mac for the second week running as they returned from the west country with another big win.

Top scorer Macaulay Langstaff scored twice in last week’s 4-0 win over title rivals Kidderminster and the Heed hit-man was at it again at Gloucester.

The Teessider book-ended the scoring at New Meadow Park to end the Tigers five-match unbeaten run.

It was also a sixth win from seven unbeaten games for a table-topping Gateshead, who have now scored 71 goals in National League North.

Adam Campbell and captain Greg Olley were also among the scorers at Gloucester, though the Heed didn’t have things all their own way.

Twice the Tigers roared back to level the scores, but at the end of the day they couldn’t live with Gateshead’s renowned fire power.

Langstaff has now scored 25 goals and is the leading scorer in National League North as he homes in on the Golden Boot.

Player-manager Mike Williamson was delighted with a ninth away league win on the road, the Tynesiders three points clear at the top.

“For 75 minutes we were very good,” said Williamson, “though we

lost control at the start of the second half.

“Gloucester scored a good goal in each half, which took the wind out of our sails, but all credit to the boys for changing the momentum.

We created enough chances to have won comfortably in the end and it was pleasing to come through and go back up the road with three points.

“We handled all the different elements of the game, including the artificial pitch, and were deserved winners.

“Connor Malley came in and did really well. It’s another good win, but the focus is now on Boston next weekend, which is another long journey.”

Gateshead came flying out of the traps on Gloucester’s plastic pitch, Langstaff through on goal in the third
