Victim felt ‘bullied’ by neighbour who spat in her face
A DISGUSTING dad spat in the face of his 63-yearold neighbour after a dispute about noise.
Mohamed Miah had a history of turning up on the woman’s doorstep to shout abuse and moan about doors banging inside her property. However, the 31-year-old’s behaviour suddenly escalated one afternoon in January this year.
A court heard that the father-of-two kicked the front door with such force as the victim tried to close it that she was sent flying backwards into a washing machine. Furious Miah, of Ford Crescent, in Shiremoor, then spat at the shocked woman, hitting her in the face.
Miah’s disgusting outburst has now landed him with a restraining order and a community order after he was arrested and pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor, Rehana Haque, said there had been issues between Mohamed and the victim for a number of years since he moved in with his wife and children in 2016. He would regularly knock on her door before shouting abuse and complaining about noise.
On January 4 this year, the woman was at her home with her brother when she heard a knock at the door. Reading from her statement, Ms Haque continued: “I was waiting for a delivery so opened the door. It was my neighbour. He said ‘what the f**k’s your problem?.’
“I went to close the door but he kicked it with his foot with such force it knocked me back into the washing machine. I tried to shut the door. I heard him hockle and he spat in my face. It hit me in the middle of my face. My brother and I managed to close the door. If my brother had not been there, I don’t know what would have happened.”
In a victim impact statement, the woman said she’d been left feeling suicidal. She added: “I have taken overdoses and I’m constantly walking on eggshells and he’s had me in tears many times. I feel like a bullied old woman.”
