Penrith fight back to shock Steelmen

-

PENRITH dealt a blow to Consett’s title hopes as they came from behind to claim all three points at the Frenchfield Stadium.

Scott Heslop fired the Steelmen ahead midway through the firsthalf – but they were condemned to a shock defeat by second-half strikes from Alfie Brunskill and Luke Brown.

The result, coupled with North Shields’ home win against Guisborough Town, leaves the Steelmen just three points clear of their nearest rivals – although Marc Nash’s men do hold four games in hand.

Thornaby moved back into third place as an Elliott Beddow hat-trick and a late Alex Hutchinson goal helped them to a dominant 4-0 win at Sunderland RCA.

A brace from James Ellis and a goal apiece for Oscar Taylor and Danni Lay helped Ryhope CW to a 4-1 win at Whitley Bay, for whom Bailey Geliher was on target.

Seaham Red Star ended Whickham’s 10-game unbeaten run as Dan Sayer’s second-half goal separated the two sides.

Billingham Town and Ashington could not be separated after a sixgoal thriller at Bedford Terrace.

The two sides were level at the interval as Terry Stephenson and Daniel Boyle wiped out the visitors’ early advantage after James Hanson and Luke Salmon found the net inside the opening ten minutes.

Oliver Cann put Town ahead for the first time in the game just before the hour mark, but Ashington hit back to earn a point thanks to a late Jordan Lashley goal.

Scott Mccarthy grabbed a late goal to give West Allotment Celtic a 2-1 win at Crook Town.

The two sides looked to be on their way to a share of the spoils as Crook’s David Webb cancelled out an opener from Matty Hayton – but Mccarthy pounced in injury time to help Allotment to the points.

Newcastle Benfield and Bishop Auckland shared the spoils as they failed to break the deadlock at Sam Smith’s Park.
