YORKSHIRE AMATEUR MARSKE UNITED

-

MARSKE United set themselves up for next weekend’s crucial clash with title rivals Liversedge with a hard-earned win at Yorkshire Amateur.

Carl Jarrett’s men thought they had taken the lead when Kevin Burgess found the net but the celebrations were cut short by the officials after an earlier foul.

Their hosts also had a goal ruled out just before the midway point of the half after Adam Priestley punished an error by Ryan Catterick but an offside flag kept the game goalless.

Priestley would not be denied three minutes before half-time when he fired home the opening goal with a powerful shot from the edge of the area.

Marske wasted little time in finding an equaliser as top scorer Adam Boyes restored parity just before the interval after he was found by Burgess.

The Seasiders started the second-half on the front-foot with Craig Gott forcing Ammas keeper Mark Bower into an awkward save with a powerful free-kick.

Marske took the lead for the first time on the hour-mark as on-loan Spennymoor Town forward Stephen Thompson raced in on goal and left Bower with no chance with a fine volley.

The hosts almost equalised within 60 seconds as Catterick produced an impressive reaction save to keep out a header from Stephen Smith.

Marske seized the initiative as the final 15 minutes arrived with Tymon sending a diving header wide and Thompson denied his second of the day by a smart save from Bower.

It was Tymon who came closest to adding a third when his long-range effort struck the crossbar before substitute James Fairley sent the rebound wide.
