League leaders Killingworth held at home by the Ford

-

PREMIER Division leaders Killingworth prevented divisional rivals Wallington of a cup double this past week by lifting the Challenge Cup, on Monday night, following a penalty shoot-out success (after a 4-4 draw over 120 minutes).

Wallington, though, finished the week strongly by coming from behind on Friday night to lift the Northumberland FA Benevolent Bowl, defeating Alnwick Town 2-1 at Whitley Park.

In the league yesterday, Killingworth endured a home battle with Burradon & New Fordley as first welcomed fourth, whilst second placed Prudhoe Youth Club entertained lowly Seaton Delaval.

Hosting the Ford, 10-man Killingworth needed two injury-time goals from Connor Campbell to earn a share of the spoils after Liam Shanley had notched a first-half brace for the visitors.

Meanwhile, at Prudhoe, they narrowed the gap on the leaders to five, with a comfortable 6-0 win at home, goals from Adam Bell, Sam Dibbfuller, Kieran Russel, Harry Mitchell, Craig Fairley and own-goal.

Ponteland would score five, without reply, when home to Cullercoats, Joe Rowan and Lewis Exley with braces; Gateshead Rutherford won 3-0 at Percy Main, Newcastle Chemfica won 2-1 Haltwhistle, and an early own-goal gifted Whitley Bay Reserves all three points away to Winlaton.

The top three in the Reeves Independent First Division all suffered defeat, leaders Cramlington United crashing to a 4-2 home defeat against then-fourth place AFC Newbiggin, Kyle Downey with a brace for the visitors.

Newcastle Independent suffered a shock defeat when away to FC United of Newcastle, Connor Doherty with a brace for the hosts, whilst Bedlington lost 2-1 away to Seaton Burn, and Wallsend Boys Club ran riot when home to Whitburn & Cleadon, they winning 10-3 as Connor Freestone hit four and Jack Brench three.

Stobswood maintained a ninepoint lead atop of the Team Valley Carpets Second Division when they won 4-0 away to Seaton Sluice, Robert Baker with a second half brace, whilst Newcastle East End moved into third with an emphatic 9-0 win at home to Ashington Reserves.

Meanwhile, the top two clashed in the Bluefin Sport Insurance Third Division, second place Walker Central closing the gap on leaders Newbiggin Central to a point after a 2-1 away win.

Goal difference splits the next three sides as Newcastle Independent Cabrito won 3-1 at Alnwick Development, Blaydon Community saw off Ellington 6-0 and Blyth Town U23s won 3-1 at home to Fawdon.
