AN ex-boyfriend who bombarded his partner with 183 texts and 105 calls in just six hours after she dumped him has been jailed.

Liam Loraine, who has a history of domestic-related offences against his girlfriends, couldn’t accept that the victim had ended their relationship over the Easter weekend so took to harassing her with messages and phone calls instead. A court heard the woman didn’t respond to the 26-year-old, who was on a suspended sentence for sending malicious communications to another former partner at the time.

In total, Loraine sent 183 texts and made 105 calls between 3.45am and 10am on April 18.

But the foolish move has now cost Loraine, of Cartmel Grove, in Saltwell, Gateshead, his liberty after he was arrested and pleaded guilty to one count of harassment.

As he was on a suspended sentence and had got out of prison for a domestic-related assault, Deputy District Judge Andrew Teate jailed him for 12 weeks.

The judge said: “We have heard from the CPS about the worrying pattern of behaviour you seem to have developed. Your history is littered with domestic incidents involving you threatening or harassing partners and ex-partners. On this occasion, it must have been obvious to you she didn’t want contact as she didn’t pick up the phone or respond to your texts.”

The court heard that Loraine and the victim had been in a relationship until she decided to end it via a text message on April 17. Niamh Reading, prosecuting at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, said the woman made it clear she didn’t want any contact from him.

Miss Reading continued: “Despite this, the defendant proceeds to contact her by ringing and sending messages to her phone. An examination of the phone revealed that, between 3.42am and 10am on April 18, the 105 calls and 183 text messages were made or sent from the defendant’s phone to the victim’s.”

A court heard the messages were not threatening but continuously asked if she was seeing someone else and why she was breaking up with him. In a statement, the victim

said: “Liam has worn me down to the point I have no life and have drifted away from my family.”

Miss Reading said Loraine was given a 10-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, in November last year for sending a partner malicious communications and was locked up for 16 months in November 2020 for a domesticrelated assault.

The court heard Loraine was extremely sorry and had only contacted the victim to seek “clarity” as he thought it was a member of her family who sent the initial message to break up with him.

Your history is littered with domestic incidents involving you threatening or harassing partners and ex-partners.
