Win in vain as Moors miss play-offs

- SPENNYMOOR CHORLEY

GOALS from Mark Anderson and Glen Taylor helped Spennymoor Town to all three points against Chorley – but results elsewhere meant the Moors missed out on a play-off spot.

The Moors made a bright start as Jordan Preston forced Magpies keeper Matt Urwin into a smart stop with just five minutes gone.

But top goalscorer Taylor soon gave his side the lead their positive play deserved by converting a penalty 13 minutes later.

The pressure continued with both Jordan Thewlis and Rob Ramshaw going close to doubling their side’s lead.

But the visitors fought back and

2 0

gained the upper hand as halftime approached, going closest when Jacob Blyth struck the post on the half-hour mark.

Brad Holmes was next to come close to an equaliser, firing a powerful drive just past the far post shortly before the interval.

Their profligacy was punished seven minutes into the second half when Anderson finished from close range after Taylor had been denied by Urwin.

That sparked some pressure from the Magpies with Connor

Hall clipping the crossbar and Billy Whitehouse bringing a smart save out of Moors keeper Jordan Amissah at his near post.

The woodwork continued to frustrate the two sides as Moors defender Joe Tait struck the post after rising to meet a Kenton Richardson cross.

The hosts pushed for a third without success as Ramshaw hit the bar and James Curtis deflected a Jamie Chandler cross wide but it ultimately did not matter.
