Pools banish any relegation worries with Stokesley win

-

IN the Darlington Building Society NYSD ECB Premier League, Stokesley were in trouble early on at Hartlepool, as Paul Braithwaite claimed a brilliant 7-28 and reduced them to 41-6 at one stage and they were eventually all out, for a paltry 71.

Pools soon knocked off the required runs, which put paid to any lingering relegation anxieties they had, finishing on 72-1.

Stockton made a slow start at Marton, but Johnathan Rickard made 38 and Joe Hewison then made an important and excellent 107 not out from 105 balls, which included 11 fours and four sixes, while the consistent Sam Berry took 3-86 with the ball, in a final total of 212-4.

The home side then had Lee Hodgson in good touch again, as he made 62 and Johnathon Spillane was in the mood scoring 60 not out and Tom Miller added 44 not out, for an important win in their survival fight.

Darlington batted first at Thornaby, but Danny Wade struck early blows. Aaron Fernando held firm though for 39 and Muhammad Saad struck 36, but Husnain Bukhari kept the score down to 184 all out, as he took 5-34.

In reply, the home side struggled against Craig Marshall’s bowling, but Danny Clark stood firm for 57 and then Lewis Harper added 46 not out and they finished the winners on 186-4.

Billingham Synthonia asked visiting Middlesbrough to bat first and they made 206-9, with James Lowe making 35, Jake Whittle 34, Matt Maloy 39 not out and Sam Gaudie 37, while Ben Phillips claimed 3-28 and Rameez Nawaz 4-49 with the ball.

In reply, Synners made 178-9 to hang on for the draw, despite Clarke Doughney taking 4-45.

Barnard Castle decided to bat first at Great Ayton, with Samarth Seth making 47, James Quinn 57 not out and Richard Borrowdale 44, in a total of 251-9, while Mohammed Mayet claimed 3-50 and Joe Marsay 3-90 with the ball.

Ayton then lost early wickets, but Martin Philpott hung around for 45 and Alfie Taylor-clarke dug in for 29 not out off 80 balls, as they finished on 145-9.
