Eppleton get off to a great start against South North

IN the Dukes ECB North East Premier League, basement club Eppleton were put in to bat first when they hosted leaders South North. Kyle Davis got his side off to a fantastic start with 92 not out from 128 balls, including 13 fours and one six, but with no other scorers of note, they were all out for 154 in 40.3 overs. Jonathan Wightman (3-36) and Oliver Mcgee (3-34) kept Eppleton at bay with good bowling performanc­es. South North made short work of their target, reaching 156-3 in 19.3 overs, with 65 from Solomon Bell, 36 from Rob Peyton and 29 not out from Christophe­r Hewison, as the Bulls bolstered their lead.

Hetton Lyons put visitors Newcastle up to bat first. Newcastle had amassed a total of only 44-3, when Charlie Robinson and Jesse Tashkoff put together an amazing partnershi­p of 149 off 141 balls. Charlie hit 45 from 68 balls. Jesse was on 126 from 107 balls. Newcastle reached 290-8 in their 50 overs. Christophe­r Ralston took 3-35. Hetton Lyons started well with 59 from Jarvis Clay, 63 from Ralston and 34 from Robert Talbot, but it was not enough to catch Newcastle and they were all out for 208. George Darwood with 4-38 and Tashkoff with 5-36 silenced the Lyons’ roars, as the gap between them and South North increased.

Sunderland welcomed Felling to Ashbrooke Sports Club and put the visitors in to bat. They gained a final total of 255-9 in 50 overs. Micky Allan was best with the ball, taking 3-51. Sunderland built a steady total but fell well short of their target, being all out for 158.

Burnmoor elected to bat first when they visited Chester-le-street, reaching a final score of 257-7 in 50 overs. Chester-le-street’s John Coxon opened with 38, Andrew Smith adding 65 and Quentin Hughes 35, as they reached 185-5. With a revised target, the result was deemed to be a tied game.

Tynemouth put their hosts Whitburn in to bat first at The Village Ground. Tynemouth’s Ben Mcgee was at 40 not out when rain stopped play ad the match was eventually abandoned after 41.4 overs, their total 127-7. Joseph Snowdon had also contribute­d 47. Jonathan Shakespear­e took 3-13.

Burnopfiel­d travelled to Benwell Hill and were put in to bat first. Alasdair Appleby got them off to a good start with 58, but then Burnopfiel­d’s batting order fell apart after they went from 105-3 to 107-6. The wickets continued to tumble and they finished their innings on 144 all out, in 33.3 overs. Mohsin Mukhtar (4-32) and Max Williamson (3-40) did the damage with the ball. After only 6.1 overs, with Benwell Hill at 23-1 and Kyle Coetzer on 20 not out, the match was abandoned due to rain
