Todd homes in on a Gold-en success

North motor sport with ZOE BURN

-

DAVEY Todd is hoping he can clean up at his home event next month after last week confirming he will ride at the Oliver’s Mount Gold Cup.

Todd, of Saltburn by the Sea, looks set to be the biggest name lining up for the three-day event which will be held over the weekend September 16-18.

Yesterday, he was back to his best on the short circuits as he flew to the top of combined practice at Cadwell Park ahead of tomorrow’s race.

For fans of road and short circuit racing, Todd is a name which will now be all too familiar.

Over the last few years, he hasgone from a TT newcomer to a podium finisher and has catapulted himself quickly up to one of the main names in road racing.

Success this year has included North West 200 wins and also wrestling the Southern 100 title away from Dean Harrison and the Cumbrian DAO Racing squad at the Isle of Man last month.

Now Todd has confirmed he will ride at the Gold Cup with the Milenco by Padgetts Motorcycles squad and looks likely to be the biggest name appearing.

The current main man at Oliver’s Mount is Dean Harrison who has racked up around 100 wins at the Scarborough hillside over the last decade and has always loved the place. However, DAO Racing team manager Jonny Bagnall has confirmed to Burning Rubber that he has no plans to take his team to next month’s event as the squad continues with its British Superbike challenge – which would suggest no Harrison.

Either way, Todd admits he is aiming high.

He said: “I am really excited, people forget but Oliver’s Mount is actually my home track if you want to call it that, so it is going to be great.

“I have been before and really enjoyed it but now I know it better, I will be looking for some wins.

“I am going with my regular team and taking two bikes so it is going to be great.

“I don’t want to say how I think I am going to get on, but I will be chasing wins.

“However, but you never know who will be there so you cannot get too complacent.

“I am just looking forward to a great weekend at a great place.”

Todd currently lies second in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship and is still within easy reach of the title.
