Tillside bowled over by win, but remain bottom

-

BOTTOM club Tillside travelled to Alnmouth and Lesbury and came away with the points after a 59-run win.

Tillside batted first, Jack Brassell’s 91 the only bright spot in their total of 158 all out.

Matisse Richards (3-30) and Paul Straker (3-43) were best with the ball.

However, Alnmouth and Lesbury were skittled for just 99 in 42.3 overs, their highest scorer Harry Sutherland with 24.

Calum Bickerton took 4-11 with Joe Bickerton, Sean Whitty and Cameron Mcgregor claiming two wickets apiece.

With only two games to go and Tillside still bottom (23 points adrift of Stocksfield) they may have left it too late for a comeback - but it is still mathematically possible.

Ponteland made the best possible start in response with 55 from Intisaar Fazal and with three other batsmen contributing scores of 20-plus they easily reached their winning total of 131 for the loss of three wickets.

Percy Main batted first at Consett and were dismissed for 63 thanks to Christopher Winn (3-17) and Andy Stokoe (4-2).

In response, Consett took only 8.1 overs to seal victory with 64-1, Stokoe proving himself capable with ball as well as bat with 44 not out.
