Visitors top of the Bill with a surprise win

-

BILLINGHAM Town sprang a major surprise to send Ashington out of the FA Vase after a pulsating affair at Woodhorn Lane.

The two sides shared seven goals in the first half with a Lee Mason brace and a goal apiece from Dean Briggs and Robbie Dale helping the Colliers into a 4-3 lead at the interval.

Two goals from Luke Spalding and one from Ben Riding had kept the visitors in touch and they seized the initiative in the second period, a Jack Pounder brace and a Ben Heeley strike helping them to a dramatic 5-3 win.

Bedlington Terriers also took a Division One scalp as Matthew Hayton grabbed the only goal of their visit to Tow Law Town and Horden CW also caused an upset in their visit to Penrith.

Two goals from Chris Stevens and a Liam Delaney own-goal was enough to see Jonathan Payne’s side claim a 3-1 victory in Cumbria.

An Aidan Rutledge brace helped Birtley Town progress with a 2-1 home success against Ilkley Town and a Tolu Osiyemi hat-trick helped Newcastle University to a 3-1 result at Chester-le-street United.

Liam Jarvie’s effort was the difference between Newton Aycliffe and Esh Winning at Moor Lane and Boldon CA’S first ever Vase tie ended in defeat as Ryan Bassey and Tom Greece netted in Thackley’s 2-0 win over David Crumbie’s men.

Liam Adamson’s goal was not enough as Easington Colliery fell to a 2-1 defeat at Squires Gate and Willington crashed to a 9-1 loss at Eccleshill United.

Nathan Stephenson and Charlie Graham scored either side of a Cameron Nichol equaliser as Northallerton Town edged out Chester-le-street Town.

There were six different scorers as Guisborough Town romped to a 6-1 hammering of Washington.

Joe Bartliff, Jason Blackburn, Jordan Fielding, Cole Kiernan, Jack Blackford and Ben Jackson all scored for the Priorymen and left a second-half Jordan Reed counter to be a mere consolation for their visitors.

A Harry Jessop brace helped Pickering Town to a 2-1 victory at Redcar Town and braces from Jordan Blinco and Corey Nicholson put West Auckland Town on their way to a 4-1 success at Crook Town.

Blyth Town fell to a narrow 1-0 home defeat against Barnoldswick Town and Josh Baggs, Darryl Donnelly, James Robinson and Brad Chisholm all scored as Seaham Red Star eased to a 4-1 home win against Redcar Athletic on Friday night.
