Krafth out for months due to injury

-

EMIL Krafth says he is ‘devastated’ after learning he will be out for ‘several months’ with a knee injury.

The Sweden international picked up the injury in Wednesday’s 2-1 Carabao Cup win at Tranmere Rovers and had to come off due to the problem.

He was spotted later on that night on crutches and wearing a protective boot but now the player has confirmed he will be out for some time due to a knee injury.

It had been the defender’s first start of the season, having been brought on in the latter stages of Newcastle’s 3-3 draw with champions Manchester City in the Premier League just three days prior.

The news comes as a major blow for Eddie Howe’s side, who will have to hope England international Kieran Trippier remains fit.

Javier Manquillo is now the only senior cover for the right-back position, though Jacob Murphy played at right wing-back during Steve Bruce’s time in charge.

Krafth posted on social media yesterday: “Hard to find words and still can’t believe it, this was not the way I wanted the season to start!

“Going to be out for several months with a knee injury.

“Devastated I cannot be out there and help the team but I will do my best to push the lads to reach success.

“One thing I know is the sun will rise tomorrow again and I will work extremely hard to get back as soon as possible!

“Thanks for all the messages and love you all have given me. See you soon back out there!”

Krafth made 22 appearances in all competitions last season and signed a new deal earlier this summer to extend his stay at St James’ Park.
