Stockton Town extend lead despite draw

EAST ROUND UP

-

STOCKTON Town moved four points clear at the top of the East Division table – even though they had to settle for a point from their visit to Grantham Town.

Both sides were tipped to perform well in the league this season but it was the hosts who struck first when Charlie Jemson beat Anchors’ goalkeeper Callum Roberts with an hour on the clock.

The lead would last just five minutes as Stockton midfielder Nathan Mulligan fired home a fine equaliser to ensure his side claimed a share of the spoils.

Consett continued their impressive start to life in step four of the non-league pyramid as they battled to a point after their long journey to Long Eaton United.

Both goals came in the opening 10 minutes as Steelmen midfielder Matty Slocombe cancelled out an early opener from Jamie Walker to ensure his side moved into third place in the table.

North Shields racked up their most impressive result of the season so far as they became the first side to beat Pontefract Collieries.

Brad Hird put Marc Nash’s side in front just after the halfhour mark but Shields had to wait until the final moments of the game to secure the points.

The Robins’ hard work and determination paid off in fine style as Regan Paterson doubled their tally in second-half injury time and gave his side a victory which lifted them to within two points of the play-offs.

Shildon’s struggles continued as they fell to a 4-0 home defeat against Carlton Town thanks to a Kyle Tomlin brace and a goal apiece from Aaron O’connor and Brad Wells.

The result means new manager Ian Clark will take over a Shildon side sat in the relegation zone with just one win from its opening nine league games.
