A LOUT kicked the window out of a police car after he took exception to being arrested.

Richard Teague had been detained on suspicion of breaching the peace after he returned to a property in Howdon, despite being earlier warned not to by officers.

The 31-year-old was placed in the back of a police vehicle but soon turned aggressive and began lashing out with his feet, a court was told.

During the course of his outburst, Teague kicked one of the back seat windows, causing it to fall out of its frame.

Prosecutors claimed that the damage cost £1,000 but this was disputed by Teague’s solicitor, Mark Harrison.

Teague, of Telford Street, in Howdon, near Wallsend, had been due before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday but failed to show and asked Mr Harrison to plead guilty to criminal damage on his behalf, which was accepted.

Prosecutor, Claire Armstrong, said officers had attended Telford Street on September 23 this year and spoke to a resident on the street. Teague, who was outside a property, was asked to leave and was warned that, should he return, he’d be arrested.

Miss Armstrong added: “The defendant did leave but then came back.

“Officers re-attended and arrested him for breach of the peace. He was placed in the back of a police car and became irate and aggressive.

“The defendant then used his foot to kick the rear passenger window in the car, which dislodged the glass from the frame.”

The court heard that Teague, who has 52 offences on his record, was subsequently pulled from the vehicle and re-arrested for criminal damage, which he admitted in interview.

Mr Harrison denied the window cost £1,000 to repair, which had been claimed in the charge. He added: “Mr Teague was upset about being arrested for breach of the peace, which was never pursued. He lashed out in frustration.”
