Wallington move into the semi-finals With win over Whitley
IN the only Team Valley Carpets Challenge Cup tie played, last season’s runners-up Wallington moved into the semi-finals with a 4-0 win over Whitley Bay Reserves with counters from Nellis, Roberts, Middleton and Paxton.
Newcastle Blue Star retained their six-point lead at the top of the Bay Plastics Premier Division with a hardfought 2-0 home win against Gateshead Rutherford. David Lanning and Luke Carr finding the net.
Surprise result of the day was Newcastle Independent’s 6-1 home defeat to Seaton Delaval AFC, the highlight of which was a 12th minute second-half hat-trick by Liam Laidler.
Another player who found the net three times was Bradley Higgins for AFC Newbiggin in their 3-3 draw with Killingworth.
Alnwick Town had a 3-0 home win over bottom Club Winlaton Community and Burradon and New Fordley also hit three without reply at Newcastle Chemfica.
Although Haltwhistle Jubilee held a 1-0 lead at half-time in their away match at Cramlington United, three second-half goals secured the points for the home team.

Percy Main Amateurs came in the first half with Ponteland taking an early lead but with two late first-half goals the visitors took the lead which they held at full-time.
All the top three teams in the Reeves Independent first Division won, Newcastle Blue Star Reserves at North Shields Ath with three secondhalf goals after finding themselves behind at half-time, Stobswood Welfare 3-0 at home to Hexham and Rothbury who moved up into third place thanks to a 2-1 win over fourth placed Bedlington.
Draws were the order of the day with Forest Hall Celtic and Gosforth Bohemians, Hebburn Town U23 and West Moor and Jesmond, Seaton
Burn and Wallsend Boys Club all sharing the points.
FC Utd of Newcastle moved up the table thanks to a 2-0 home win over Whitburn and Cleadon and Willington Quay Saints won 3-0 at home over Newcastle East End.
Blyth Town U23 faced Ellington, second versus third, in the Team Valley Carpets 2nd Division and after a hard-fought game the spoils were shared in a 1-1 draw.
Blaydon Community remain top after a first-half goal from Simon Reed was enough to see off Heaton Stannington FC A.
Harvey Conqueror found the net four times in Newcastle University A’s 8-0 rout of Morpeth which was equalled by Jack Desmond in Wideopen’s 7-0 win over North Sunderland. Walker Central moved up the table thanks to an 88th minute winner from Igho Desmond against Whitley Bay Sporting Club.
