Poppies edge a win over Moors

- KETTERING TOWN SPENNYMOOR

A SECOND-HALF comeback from Kettering Town ensured Spennymoor Town emerged pointless from their trip to Latimer Park.

The Moors made a positive start as Mark Anderson curled a shot wide and John Lufudu fired over inside the opening ten minutes.

Further chances came with home keeper Harrison Foulkes producing an outstanding save to tip a shot from Joe Tait over the crossbar.

The breakthrough finally arrived in first-half injury-time as Scott Duxbury’s determination allowed John Lufudu to force the ball beyond Foulkes and into the net from close-range.

The hosts took just three minutes into the second-half to get themselves back in the game as Brad Gascoigne headed home from a corner-kick to give his side some hope of claiming all three points.

Parity was almost restored just after the hour-mark when the Poppies forced an error from the visitors but some determined defending saw a goalbound shot from Ben Sault blocked.

The turnaround was complete ten minutes from time as Keaton Ward seized possession in the centre circle before racing goalwards and unleashing a fine effort beyond on-loan Moors keeper Gio Bellagambi.

The Moors put in a determined effort to try to rescue a point and were left frustrated when Tom Allan hit the crossbar, Mark Anderson saw a shot saved and Danny Greenfield fired over during a remarkable passage of play.

An equaliser remained out of touch and the hosts took the honours.
