Cup last four line-ups close to completion
MANY of the quarter-final ties in the various Divisional Cup Competitions were played over the weekend.
In the Challenge Cup, the teams moving into the semi-finals, joining Wallington, are Newcastle Blue Star who, in the Friday evening game, beat Newcastle Independent 4-0 thanks to a double from Luke Carr and counters from Dean Holmes and Dan Lanning.
The other two ties both resulted in 2-1 away wins for Seaton Delaval AFC at Burradon and New Fordley and Alnwick Town at Cramlington United.
In the Combination Cup, the teams going into the semi-finals are North Shields Athletic, 3-1 home winners over Bedlington; Stobswood Welfare, who beat Willington Quay Saints 4-2; Newcastle East End – 3-0 winner at Seaton Burn – and West Moor & Jesmond, who claimed a 1-0 home win over Gosforth Bohemians.
In the Amateur Cup all were ties played were high-scoring games.
Blaydon Community won 6-2 at Newcastle Chemfica, Simon Reed and Liam Garrett netting two each.
Newcastle Uni A overwhelmed Blyth Town U23 8-0 and, although Morpeth pulled back a three-goal deficit in the last five minutes, they lost the penalty shoot out 4-2 at Whitley Bay Sporting Club.
In the Neville Cowey Cup, both the top two teams in the League suffered defeats – Benton went down 5-2 at home to Ashington FC Reserves and Amble lodt 2-1 at Hazlerigg Victory.
The other two ties were both won by the home teams – Gosforth Bohemians Reserves 3-1 over Alnwick Town Development and Whickham FC U23 2-1 over Heddon Utd.
In the Bay Plastics Premier Division, Wallington won 3-2 at AFC Newbiggin, Newcastle Chemfica beat Haltwhistle Jubilee 5-4 and Gateshead Rutheford won 1-0 at bottom club Winlaton Community.
Forest Hall Celtic moved off the foot of the Reeves Independent First Division thanks to a a 5-3 win at FC United of Newcastle.
The two remaining matches both resulted in 4-1 wins – for Hebburn Town U23 at home to Rothbury, and leaders Newcastle Blue Star Reserves at Wallsend Boys’ Club.
In the Team Valley Carpets Second Division, Ellington moved within a point of the top spot with a 4-0 win over Cullercoats.
The spoils were shared in the other matches – Heaton Stannington FC A drew 1-1 with Ponteland Utd Reserves and Newcastle Independent Cabrito shared six goals with Wideopen.
The Bluefin Insurance Third Division produced three aways wins – for Wallsend Boys’ Club U23s, Blyth Rangers and Whitley
