Orient return to top of table with victory over 10-man Cumbrians

-

THEO Archibald scored twice as Leyton Orient returned to the top of the Sky

Bet League Two table with a thrilling

3-2 win over 10-man Carlisle.

Archibald got his first when he let fly from outside the area, before Carlisle pulled level when Ryan Edmondson nodded in from a corner.

However, they were not level for long as Archibald chipped over Tomas Holy to re-establish Orient’s lead.

Blues goalscorer Edmondson was then sent off for lashing out at Darren Pratley and they were made to pay when Aaron Drinan made it 3-1.

Despite Jordan Gibson pulling a goal back for Carlisle, they could not muster an equaliser.

Stevenage slipped to their first defeat in six games at the hands of fellow high-flyers Northampton by a 3-2 scoreline.

Louis Appere opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but Danny Rose drew level for Stevenage with their first real attack of the game.

The game burst into action in the last 10 minutes and the Cobblers hit the front again through Kieron Bowie, before they were pegged back as Alex Gilbey made it 2-2.

But Northampton had their winner two minutes later through Shaun Mcwilliams, before Danny Hylton saw red for lashing out at Dan Sweeney.

Mansfield lost ground on the top three as they suffered their first loss in eight league games with a 3-2 defeat to Crawley.

The Reds raced into a two-goal lead courtesy of strikes from Ashley Nadesan and Tom Nichols, but Nigel Clough’s side were level before the half-hour mark through a Jordan Bowery penalty and a subsequent George Lapslie effort.

Crawley got the all-important winner just after half-time when Nadesan grabbed his second of the afternoon.

Stockport claimed their second successive win on the road with a 2-0 victory over Salford, Will Collar scoring the opener before Paddy Madden’s fourth goal in his last four games made sure of the points.

Jordan Turnbull’s second-half equaliser helped stretch Tranmere’s unbeaten run to six games after Matty Daly opened the scoring for Harrogate in a 1-1 draw.

Barrow ended a run of four defeats on the bounce with a 1-1 draw against Gillingham.

Josh Kay’s overhead effort from six yards gave Pete Wild’s side the lead, but Gillingham grabbed the equaliser with 15 minutes to play through Elkan Baggott.

Goals from Courtney Baker-richardson and George Miller in either half ensured Crewe and Doncaster shared the spoils at the Mornflake Stadium, while the 10 men of Walsall snatched a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with Sutton at the VBS Community Stadium.

Brandon Comley was shown a second yellow card for the Saddlers in the 26th minute of the contest and Sutton thought they had scored the crucial goal through Robert Milsom’s 72nd-minute penalty.

However, Jacob Maddox’s fine finish from the edge of the box handed Walsall an unlikely point.

Strikes from Ayoub Assal and Josh Davison helped AFC Wimbledon to a

2-1 win over Rochdale as the hosts slipped to their first defeat in three.

Will Evans scored the only goal of the game for Newport in a 1-0 win against Colchester, who dropped into the relegation spots, and a goalless draw between Grimsby and Bradford was played out at Blundell Park.
