Haaland back on target in City win over the Seagulls

-

ERLING Haaland returned to form as Premier League champions Manchester City sank Brighton 3-1.

The prolific Norwegian endured a rare off-day as City slipped to their first defeat of the campaign at Liverpool last week, but he responded by scoring twice against the Seagulls at the Etihad Stadium.

Both his goals came in the first half, the second from the penalty spot, but it took a fine Kevin De Bruyne strike to wrap up victory after Brighton rallied with a Leandro Trossard reply.

Haaland’s double took his tally since joining City to a remarkable 22 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions. He now also has 17 Premier League strikes to his name, just six short of last season’s goldenboot winning total.

Nottingham Forest ended their 10-game winless streak as Taiwo Awoniyi secured a famous 1-0 victory against his former club Liverpool. Awoniyi was on the books at Anfield for six years without ever playing for them, but his secondhalf goal ended their Premier League revival and lifted Forest off the foot of the table.

A 55th-minute free-kick found Steve Cook on the right-hand side and his fizzed cross was struck against the post by Ryan Yates, with Awoniyi on hand to turn the rebound into an empty net.

Casemiro scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser with his first Manchester United goal to snatch a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

The hosts had taken the lead in an unremarkable match through Jorginho’s 87th-minute penalty after Armando Broja was fouled by Scott Mctominay.

But deep into stoppage time Casemiro’s header was adjudged to have just crossed the line to earn United a point.

Dominic Calvert-lewin was on target for Everton in a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace to end their threematch losing run.

His opener set up the victory which was secured by second-half goals from Anthony Gordon and substitute Dwight Mcneil, as Palace’s winless run at Goodison Park was extended to eight matches.
