No reason for team’s high standards to slip

- By Lee Clark

WHEN it comes to pressure or talk of a free hit, I dont think Eddie Howe works in that way. He sets such high standards that’ll he be going to Tottenham expecting to get a result.

I certainly have great belief they can go there and get a result. This team is performing on all levels to a really high standard, both on and off the ball. I don’t think they have to fear anybody.

They didn’t fear going to Anfield where, but for a couple of refereeing decisions, they would have got a result.

They were terrific against Manchester City at home, on another day with a little bit of luck they could have taken all three points.

They don’t let their standards drop, they don’t think we’ve taken X points from these games so this one isn’t so important. They’ll be thinking about getting the gameplan right, executing it as well as they have been doing and they’ve got a great chance of getting a result.

The Everton win was a sign of a good team. You can never play every single game at your best, and to be honest this Newcastle group have set such high standards.

It’s difficult to uphold those all of the time, and they’re showing they can still win games when they’re not at their absolute best.

How you do that is by being very well organised, solid defensively and keeping clean sheets. They have got players who can produce that bit of magic, Miguel Almiron is full of confidence and playing at the top of

The manager and his coaching staff have made the team a lot more effective going forward, but that hasn’t come at the cost of the defence. They’re combining both, they’re strong defensively and attractive on the eye and doing well with the ball.

There’s been good signings that have come in, but you have to give the players who were already here some fantastic credit.

What they’ve done, they’ve basically been given a challenge by the new signings.

Everyone can be a part of this, but you have to be a certain standard as we have to get certain results. The players already there have done superbly, and the new signings have been unbelievable and made a huge difference.

The work the whole team is getting through, all of the players deserve

tremendous credit and also the manager and his coaching staff. You can tell they are a well-drilled and organised team, and if you’ve got both aspects which Newcastle have at the moment, they’ve got a great chance of picking up positive results on a regular basis.

I’m looking forward to the game already.

It’s that old feeling once the last game is gone, you’re thinking when is the next one. Tottenham is a test but we can go and win.
