I’ll give it my all, says head coach

-

EDDIE Howe says moving his family to Newcastle on a long-term basis is part of his vision for success at St James’ Park.

The target to win a trophy in six years has been spoken about behind the scenes with Howe encouraging his players to dream about silverware and believe in getting back into Europe.

But the head coach feels the chances of any of that happening start with him.

In the past, Newcastle managers have not fully invested in the area and have opted instead to travel back and forth from their original homes. But Howe said: “You try to assess the whole picture but I think for me I am very much a person that I want to commit to something fully. I think that is the best way for success.

“So that’s why I decided to do what I have done with my family and bring everyone up and make that commitment. I will go all-in and give everything I can for success.

“This is the best way for me. Off the pitch to stay sane and to try to deliver the best for my players I need to be happy and content with my life. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. But I will have the feeling I have given everything, my best effort, that’s the only thing I can do.”

In a week that resulted in Steve Gerrard being shown the door at Aston Villa just 40 matches into his stint at the second city club, Howe had sympathy for his counterpart.

Reflecting on where Newcastle are, Howe said: “I am happy with where we are at the moment, where the team is, we’re happy. But I know that doesn’t guarantee success and results long-term. What will be, will be.”
