POLICE are searching for a pedestrian involved in a suspected hit-and-run.

Officers are concerned for the welfare of the man following the collision on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Stanhope Street in Fenham, Newcastle, at around 1.05pm after reports a man had been involved in a collision with a car, which left without stopping.

Police attended but the pedestrian had also left before officers could speak to him.

They are now concerned for his welfare.

Acting Det Sgt SarahJayne Morrison said: “We’re worried that someone could be seriously hurt.”

Yesterday tributes were being paid to Joanne Sayers who died at her home in Newcastle, aged just 45.

Joanne, sister to Stephen and John Henry Sayers, was found dead at her home in Fenham in the city’s West End on Wednesday.

Police were alerted by a 999 call to the semi, on Hadrian Road - her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Stephen Sayers, 53, has led tributes to Joanne and said his family is devastated at the loss of his sister.

He said: “The news that our sister Joanne Sayers has passed away came as a shock to us all.

“She led a quiet life and kept herself to herself.

“She has been taken from us too soon. “

One friend said: “R.I.P Joanne, devastated to hear such sad news.

“You were a true friend and will live in my heart forever.”

Police were called to Joanne’s home by the ambulance service on Wednesday morning.

Career criminal Stephen announced in 2015 he was turning his back on crime for the sake of his children.

His brother, John Henry Sayers, is currently in prison having been convicted of perverting the course of justice in connection with a shooting outside Newcastle’s Tup Tup Palace nightclub, three years ago.

He was jailed for three years and six months in September.

Since Joanne’s death scores of messages of support have been sent to the family via social media.
