A1 crash hor­ror

A MAN suf­fered se­ri­ous head in­juries af­ter a metal ob­ject smashed through his wind­screen while he was driv­ing on the A1.

The 61-year-old was trav­el­ling on the south­bound car­riage­way at Faw­don in New­cas­tle at around 10.04am on Fri­day when he was in­jured.

It is un­der­stood a metal ob­ject has fell from a mov­ing ve­hi­cle and went through the wind­screen of his van.

The driver of the sil­ver Citroen Ber­lingo was taken to hos­pi­tal with se­ri­ous head in­juries.

One lane of the south­bound car­riage­way was blocked for around one hour.

Po­lice said: “Po­lice are now urg­ing any­one who saw what hap­pened in the mo­ments lead­ing up to the col­li­sion, par­tic­u­larly pass­ing ve­hi­cles with any dash cam footage, to get in touch so they can de­ter­mine what has hap­pened. Of­fi­cers would also like to speak to drivers of any ve­hi­cles car­ry­ing metal in the area at the time.
