Westoe are winners

THE referee’s whistle and windy conditions were key to a clash which failed to match Westoe’s exciting encounter against Durahm last week.
Playing against a strong wind, Gateshead started the better, showing determination and commitment from the start.
Gateshead came close to a couple of early scores and Westoe had few chances in the half, falling foul of the ref and giving away no fewer than 14 penalties. 8 17
With the first half scoreless, it was a revitalised Westoe who started strong in the second. Sam Gaff steered Westoe into the lead with a set-down.
Paul Evan then added a second for 0-10 until Gateshead came back with a penalty.
With 10 minutes left, Gateshead winger Mather found himself with enough space to cross in the corner. But it was alll over as Westoe’s Luke Moffett’s solo effort made it 8-17.
