Catts set to miss FA Cup clash with Vale
LEE Cattermole missed Sunderland’s win at Plymouth with a foot injury – and could also sit out next weekend’s trip to Port Vale.
The Black Cats’ influential midfielder suffered the injury at fortnight ago and played through the pain against Doncaster and Southend.
But he was absent for yesterday’s 2-0 victory at Plymouth, and manager Jack Ross says former Middlesbrough man Cattermole (pictured below) is a major doubt for next Sunday’s FA Cup first round tie at Vale Park.
“Lee has had an ongoing foot problem since the Shrewsbury game,” said Ross. “To his credit, Lee played through a lot of pain against Doncaster and then in particular against Southend, but I would suggest we will probably be without him again next weekend but hopefully after that he will be back to fitness.
“It was something we couldn’t risk flaring up and developing into something more long-term.”
Costa Rica international defender Bryan Oviedo was also missing from the squad at Home Park, with former St Mirren boss Ross explaining: “Bryan had a calf issue, which is why he is not here.”
