Reporter THE opening of Gateshead’s new winter village was delayed by bad weather.

The attraction on the banks of the Tyne was due to officially open at Baltic Square yesterday.

But organisers confirmed the opening of the Quayside market has been delayed until today as bad weather has affected the Teepee bar.

Jonathan Corbett said the wind had caused damage to the teepee overnight, meaning it was unable to open for safety reasons.

But he said: “We’re working to get things up and running for tomorrow [Sunday].”

As well as an array of stalls, offering visitors the chance to pick up Christmas gifts, local crafts and seasonal food, a Teepee bar and an indoor-outdoor cinema, the big draw is set to be a host of private dining pods.

The igloo-shaped pods offering a private seasonal experience for groups, fitting up to six people in each and available for up to two hours.

Christmas films will be playing in each of the pods, and they come with an exclusive menu provided by Newcastle restaurant, Colonel Porter’s Emporium.

Santa can also be found in his specially made grotto.
