BER­WICK main­tained their un­beaten run and stretched their lead at the top of East League 1 when they beat Royal High at Scre­mer­ston.

It was first against sec­ond, and both sides knew that vic­tory would put them top of the pile.

Ber­wick made a bright start and cru­cially made it count on the score­board.

An­drew Skeen gave the hosts the lead with a penalty af­ter six min­utes but there was more to come.

On 15 min­utes Jamie Pick went over for a try and with Skeen ad­ding the con­ver­sion, the Blacks were 10-0 to the good.

Gareth Hill added a sec­ond try af­ter 35 min­utes as the score­board ticked over to 15-0.

But the Barn­ton op­po­nents gave them­selves some hope when they scored a try of their own, which they con­verted, to re­duce the ar­rears, with the score sit­ting at 15-7 at half time.

In the sec­ond half Ber­wick put them­selves un­der pres­sure when Jamie Pick was yellow carded and sent to the sin bin, but they weath­ered the storm and man­aged to main­tain their ad­van­tage.
