Seasiders’ away win

-

CALLUM Patton was Whitby Town’s hero as his second-half brace helped the Seasiders come from behind to claim a narrow win at Hednesford Town, writes MARK CARRUTHERS.

The hosts started the game on top and finally broke the deadlock midway through the first half with a clinical finish from former Workington striker Dan Cockerline.

But that was as good as it got for the Pitmen, as they were put to the sword by a much-improved second-half display from the Seasiders.

Patton got his first of the day 10 minutes after the restart as the former Whitley Bay player pounced on a weak header from Kieron Dawes and powered a half-volley past home keeper Josef Bursik. HEDNESFORD TOWN 1 WHITBY TOWN 2

And the turnaround was complete on the hour mark as Patton doubled his tally and put his side in front for the first time in the game.

The forward linked up well with Gateshead loanee Lewis Maloney before finding the bottom corner of Bursik’s net.

The three points moved Chris Hardy’s side up to 11th place in the table, although they remain 11 points behind the play-off places.
