Highwaymen’s charge held up

-

MORPETH TOWN 2 CLEETHORPES TOWN 4

MORPETH Town’s unbeaten home record came to an end as Cleethorpes put four goals past the Highwaymen, writes STUART DICK.

Iulian Petrache got the hosts off to the perfect start with his eighthminute opener, however, this was cancelled out by Jon Oglesby’s stunning 20-yard strike in the 24th.

Oglesby added his second four minutes into the second half, before Ben Sayer levelled proceedings.

Two goals in five minutes from Paul Walker and Scott Vernon in the 56th and 61st minutes respectively condemned Morpeth to defeat.

Nick Gray made four changes from the side that beat Mansfield, Danny Carson, Sam Hodgson, Jack Foalle and Iulian Petrache all in the starting XI. And it was Petrache who netted the opener, heading home a Sean Taylor corner inside 10 minutes.

Cleethorpes equalised in the 24th minute when Oglesby crafted himself a chance 18 yards out and stroked the ball past Dan Lowson, before sliding the ball through the Morpeth ‘keeper’s legs for a second.

Sayer replied three minutes later with a calm finish from 12-yards out, but Walker headed home from inside the six-yard box before Vernon capitalised on an errant Morpeth pass and calmly finished.

The Highwaymen remain topsix points clear of their nearest rivals.
