CONSETT 2 ASHINGTON 0

CONSETT were made to work for their win as they eventually claimed all three points at home to Ashington.

The Steelmen dominated early on with Matty Cornish bringing a smart stop out of Colliers’ Conor Grant.

Daniel Craggs then went close from distance. The visitors created their first chance ten minutes after the restart when Zak Atkinson’s effort was kept out by Consett’s Kyle Hayes.

Steve Bowey’s side came close to scoring just before the hour mark as Nick Green sliced a cross against his own crossbar and on to the goalline.

The introduction of Michael Sweet was the catalyst for the hosts’ victory, Matty Slocombe heading home after a Craggs free-kick hit the woodwork.

Sweet got the decisive second goal on 76 minutes from the penalty spot. GUISBOROUGH TOWN 1 BISHOP AUCKLAND 2

BISHOP Auckland made it nine games unbeaten in all competitions with a hard-earned win at Guisborough.

The Two Blues took just six minutes to take the lead, a Shaun Ryder drive beating home keeper Jordan Nixon.

The hosts responded well and created chances without really testing Bishops keeper Nick Liversedge.

It could have been 2-0 but a fine last-ditch challenge from Nathan Guru denied Andrew Johnson and Chris Salmon’s chip hit the bar.

The second goal did finally arrive on the hour as Darren Richardson forced the ball over from close-range following a corner from the right.

Both sides finished with 10 men, Guisborough’s Steven Roberts and Lewis Gibbons shown red before Mark Robinson’s penalty made it 2-1.

The hosts led after 10 minutes, as Jake Orrell rounded off some impressive play from Rhys Evans.

West finally created their first chance midway through the half when Andrew Grainger saved Amar Purewal’s weak header. Dale Pearson almost doubled Benfield’s advantage with a spectacular overhead-kick.

The visitors improved after the break but on the hour mark were two goals, Paul Brayson making the most of Shane Bland’s poor goalkick.

The Robins took the lead on eight minutes; Sean Mcroberts cut inside and smashed a powerful effort past Steve Hubery from all of 25 yards.

Marc Nash’s side doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark as Ryan Carr’s low drive found the far corner.

The hosts took a three-goal lead into the half-time break thanks to a clever free-kick from Paul Robinson, as the former FA Vase winner caught out Hubery at his near-post.

Hebburn pulled a goal back six minutes into the second half, Luke Sullivan heading home unmarked.

The visitors put the Robins under a lot of pressure but were caught out on 85 minutes, Craig Spooner netting. PENRITH 1 SHILDON 1

SHILDON rounded off a difficult week with a draw against the bottom side.

Daniel Moore’s team were knocked out of the FA Vase last weekend and saw two experienced players leave in midweek, but they started the game on the front foot in Cumbria.

But they almost fell behind on 18 minutes when Bonny Blues striker Martyn Coleman’s drive hit a post.

Shildon though drew first blood on 40 minutes when Ben Trotter’s low drive found its way past Tom Fowler.

But the two sides were level at the break, Grant Davidson’s seeing his deflected shot deceive Shaun Newbrook before nestling into his net.

Shildon’s Nathan Steel struck the post and the big striker also headed wide, and Matty Robson almost won it for the Railwaymen but his free-kick sailed over Fowler’s crossbar. Corey Nicholson came close to an equaliser on 26 minutes as he saw a header cannon back off the crossbar.

Their pressure finally paid off 11 minutes before half-time as Rae met a Skidmore corner and headed home.

Rae put his side ahead for the first time after the break as he stroked the ball past Tom Flynn from 18 yards.

Jack Devlin’s wonderful 25-yard free-kick made it 3-1. Luke Taylor almost got the visitors back into the game when his free-kick was tipped on to the bar by keeper Atkinson.

STOCKTON Town returned to winning ways with an impressive victory.

The Anchors raced into a two-goal lead via Mikey Roberts and Nathan Mulligan by the quarter-hour mark.

But RCA were back level by the midway point of the first half thanks to a Dylan Elliott penalty and a calm finish from Michael Charlton.

Stockton led at the break, captain Adam Nicholson sending a powerful header past Dimitrios Tsapolos, and it was 4-2 eight minutes after the break, Fred Woodhouse getting the goal that effectively ended the contest.

The forward sent a long-distance effort beyond Tsapolos, although the keeper should have done better.

The visitors pressed to try and get themselves back in the game but had left themselves with too much to do.

But Newton Aycliffe produced a comeback to take the three points.

The Lang Jacks started well and Andrew Bulford had two chances to open the scoring, firing wide and forcing keeper James Winter into a stunning stop before the half-hour.

Then nine minutes before half-time South Shields youngster Cowburn fired Robin Falcus’ side into the lead.

Dale Burrell hit the crossbar on 58 minutes but on 66 minutes Lang Jacks striker Damien Stevens was shown a second yellow-card and the visitors took full advantage.
