Boycott rethink is huge help

- Lee Ryder

JAMAAL Lascelles has heaped praise on Newcastle United fans for calling off a boycott ahead of this afternoon’s clash with Wolves.

The club captain says players are fully focused on delivering three points, but insists that the power of the Geordie faithful should never be underestimated and it can be a key factor in keeping the club in the Premier League this season.

The Magpie Group were leading calls for supporters to boycott today’s game as they step up their attempts to encourage United owner Mike Ashley to club.

However, the group cancelled the protest plans after Ashley announced he is currently in talks about a potential takeover.

On the pitch, Lascelles could lead the team out today after recovering from a shoulder injury to play his part in a credible 1-1 draw at Everton.

Now Lascelles (pictured right) has warned that players and fans can make the difference against a Wolves side on a high after beating Chelsea at Molineux.

He told the Sunday Sun: “As players all we are going to do is sell the concentrate that’s it.

“All we need to focus on winning games – everything else is out of our hands.

“But the fans have been excellent since I have been here.

“I know they are the best fans in the country.

“Having them behind us makes a massive impact but at the same time as players we need to stay focused on our job and concentrate.” on football,
