Pub given planning go-ahead

-

A MICROPUB is to replace an old bookmakers after planning permission was granted to overhaul the Ryton vacant shop.

Gateshead Council granted a licence for the new watering hole, The Lane Head, despite some residents feeling “very upset” about the plans.

In a bid to allay fears about a potential increase in anti-social behaviour and noise the pub had agreed to cut its opening hours and enforce a strict drinking ban outside its Main Road building.

The venue will be able to sell alcohol from noon to 9.30pm from Sunday to Thursday and until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Planning officers recommended that councillors approve Douglas Musgrove’s application to change the use of the unit to a micropub.

The report to council stated no external alterations would be carried out and said the venue would “enhance the vitality and viability of the district centre”.

Planning committee members voted in favour of the plans.
