GAME ANGLING

- BY MARK ARMSTRONG

DERWENT RESERVOIR 01207 255250

Footfall has been very steady for the time of year with 29 anglers wetting a line landing 108 trout to give a weekly rod average of 3.5.

Catch of the week went to Steve Rowland who started his days fishing on the Meadow landing six fish in quick succession, then the wind changed so he moved across to the South shore next to the stream where he landed his last two trout for his limit bag. All of Steve’s trout were taken using ledgered orange power-bait eggs. Fly anglers have found the area west of the sailing club and the Meadow to be the hot spots this last week, best tactics have been lures fished slowly on an intermediate line. Multi-bait anglers have caught fish from just about everywhere so trout are well spread out, tactics that have proved successful have been ledgered power-bait fished in conjunction with magic dust in a feeder.

The fishery will be staying open all through the winter with regular stockings going in.

The Fishery is holding a Boxing Day competition this year, I will have more information on this in next week’s report.

HURY RESERVOIR 01833 641121

This fishery has seen no anglers this week due I’m sure to a combination of poor weather conditions and the festive period being so close. Please remember this water will be staying open throughout the winter and will continue to be stocked on a regular basis, so if you fancy a little winter fishing this is a lovely part of the world to do it.

SWEETHOPE LOUGHS 01830 540349

This water remains open throughout the winter months but will see no stockings till just before the start of the 2019 season. The cost of a four-hour catch & release ticket is only £8.00 and if you would like to take three fish home that ticket will cost £12.00. Pike fishing is also allowed through the winter at a cost of £5.00 per rod.

THRUNTON FISHERY 01665 574400

The weather has been very changeable this last week but has not spoilt the fishing with some top class returns recorded. Leading the charge was Mick Brown from Bedlington who caught and returned 20 trout including a big rainbow weighing 16Ibs. Matty Devine from Hadston also caught and returned 20 trout his best weighed 12Ibs, Nick Hart was kept busy during his visit landing 18 fish, Josh Piper and Davy Kay both caught and returned 16 fish each. Festive closing times are as follows: the fishery will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year Eve and New Year Day.

JUBILEE LAKES 01388 772611

What a lovely fishery this is especially at this time of year, winter fishing at its best at one of the region’s top venues. Both lakes at this water are full of hard fighting trout just waiting for you to catch them and the warm welcome you will receive from Dave and Sandra will make your day special.

At this time of year depending on the temperatures the trout can be up and down in the water so be prepared to take advice.

Festive closing times: The fishery will be open as per winter timetable but will close from the 22nd of December till the 2nd of January, will open until the 5th of January then close until January 30th.

ALDIN GRANGE LAKES 0191 3846090

Both lakes fishing well with anglers enjoying some great winter fishing, for the most part trout are at least mid-water so some type of sinking line has proved best, flies working well have included GRHE, PTN, Damsels, Diawl Bach, Cats Whiskers and Dancers. However, during milder moments trout have been seen on or close to the surface feeding and Buzzers, Bloodworm or even a dry fly have caught fish.
