Blaydon Guys prove too good for derby rivals Alnwick

-

BLAYDON ALNWICK 47 22

THIS local derby was played in excellent spirit but Blaydon’s well-drilled backs were always in control after a fourth-minute try by Keith Laughlin and Jamie Guy kicked the first of his six conversions.

Shortly afterwards, great interplay between backs and forwards saw Hugh Mongan increase the lead only for the visiting side to hit back when John Bird drove over for an unconverted try.

Blaydon, however, were soon back on the offensive and Guy Graham touched down between the posts for the first of his two tries.

Alnwick then came more into the game and apart from a Paul Moralee try wide out, they had little to show for their efforts and a break by Alex Clarke saw second row Jack Davidson finish off and Guy add the extras.

Immediately on the re-start, Alnwick closed the gap when Bird scored his second but thereafter the game always belonged to Blaydon with Graham getting his second, a penalty try.

And Blaydon’s final effort came from Mongan who came into the line off the wing and finished between the posts for his second score.

Meanwhile, Alnwick picked up their third yellow card of the game but were compensated when winger Sean Hutchinson finished off in fine style to gain the visitors a bonus point.
